This cou.s. was an excellent grammar refresher for me. I never thought much about how verbs conjugate, or how sentences are formed. The grammar chapters were really useful for helping me understand english grammar better and they made me think about how I would explain grammatical concepts to students in different levels.
I found the teaching units to be the most helpful. While I have taught before, and used warm-u.s.Engage activities, I had never used more fluency focused Activate activities. I mostly taught Mathematics, but I can see how a lot of the teaching concepts are shared between the subject. I've never taught english as a foreign language, and there was a lot if great information about the problems I might face and how to deal with them.
I am going to japan in August to teach english at the High School level, and the lesson planning experience has been incredibly valuable. I had no idea how to plan for an english lesson, which is why I decided to take this cou.s.. Only three weeks ago, I was incredibly nervous about starting at my new school. Now I'm confident I'll be able to handle whatever they ask me to do. I'm certainly not scared of lesson planning anymore.
