Thus, it would not be a far cry from the truth, to say that it is almost impossible to function efficiently in an international community without a basic knowledge of english. With so great a need to learn english comes the demand for teachers of english. Last year, a close friend of mine spent her summer at a monastery in nepal, teaching english to Buddhist monks. It struck me as amazing that even teachers of this humble way of life were feeling the pressure set by the developing world to know and speak english. It is for this reason, among others, that I chose to do the tefl course.
