I have personally learned/gained a tremendous amount about teaching english as a foreign language. I have learned about different parts of english that I will need to teach such as parts of speech, the different tenses, pronunciation, phonology, and conditionals to name a few. It was a great refresher on these elements of the english language and completing these unit lessons have given me a better idea of what I need to review more before I begin teaching. Just like the way teachers use tests to track students progress, I got the same effect from working through these unit lessons. This course has given me more than just knowledge about the english language; it has given me knowledge about the classroom and the students. I have gotten an enhanced idea about teaching a new language internationally, managing classes, lesson planning, teaching receptive and productive skills, using course books and lesson materials, and teaching to different levels of students. I furthered my understanding that teaching english is not all about completely knowing the english language but it is also being able to communicate effectively with the students and to make the classroom a fun and friendly learning environment. Even if I was the most intelligent human being on the planet, I would not necessarily be the best teacher on the planet. There is so much more to teaching than being able to know the material. This course has helped me see that and has given me a lot of knowledge of how to deal with different kinds of situations with students and their different levels. I plan to put what I have learned into action by saving all of the unit lessons and referring back to them whenever necessary. I know I will be running into situations when I will need advice on how to deal with certain students or how to motive students to be more involved. I know when teaching I will need to come up with lesson plans that will need activities to help teach the material and this course has given plenty of usable examples. I feel much more confident and better rounded as a teacher to be able to teach to my highest potential. I appreciate everything that this course has taught me.
