Online tefl courses vs onsite tefl courses (7) With the advancement of technology and globalization of society may courses are offered in class and online. This allows anyone the opportunity to pursue the education they want without being limited to only what is offered near them or what works with their schedule. Included in this flexible opportunity, tefl is a course that is offered online or in class to those that want to teach english to foreign learners. Making the choice on how to take the course can take some consideration for some and non for others. In the following paragraphs I will be discussing the positive and negative aspects of each. There are opportunities all over the world for future teachers as well as the students. Teaching english as a foreign language can prove to be an interesting choice for those that want to travel and experience other cultures. The course can be taken online and onsite in a classroom, but onsite can prove to be a large financial investment. The onsite option is typically 4 weeks long, given in a full time format, and typically not in the hometown of the student. It is estimated that to take this course in class would cost one about 4000 to 5000 dollars total, quite an investment. On the other hand, the course can provide more hours of hands on training making oneself more marketable to potential employers. A more economical option to earn a tefl certification would be to take an online course from your own home. The online course is available to anyone that can access the internet and usually costs between 400-1000 dollars depending on which course you choose to take. In addition to the course being a money saver, it allows one to be able to work from anywhere in the world and gives flexibility in the homework for those that need to multitask. As there are some great benefits to the course online there are also some negative sides as well. By taking the course online the future teacher loses the hands on training that comes with classroom experience as well as the attractiveness of this training to employers. Online students may lose time in practicing but instead have more time to search and apply for jobs, which could help them find a job immediately after earning their certification. Comparing the two could easily help to decide which option to go with but it all comes down to a few factors that help the decision. Money is a big factor that plays in the whole course, do you have enough to finance an onsite course along with housing and daily expenses? The next but equally important factor would be time, do you have 4-6 weeks to dedicate for a full time class or can you take it part time on your own? Finally, what are you comfortable doing? If a student knows they learn better in the classroom than on their own, it may be better to take a full time course than part time. Whatever one chooses the two choices are both closely monitored by tefl accreditation agencies and are inspected on a regular basis. In conclusion, one cannot base their decision solely on their location or financial capacity.
