Wow! First thing I must say is that this was the best $250 I ever spent on a class that helped improved my job performance. Secondly, I have recommended this course to current esl teachers I meet here in Korea and have strongly suggested that my ex-employer and franchiser, SLA, should require all teachers to attend this course and be certified. They now have over 60 schools here in Korea.
I have personally gained a lot from this course that helped me organize and empowered my methodologies in teaching students english as a second language. Unit 14, 16, and 18 was especially helpful for me since I have forgotten some of these rules from high school. The verb tense lessons were a great review and Unit 3 was helpful. I wished I had taken this course four years ago when I first started out as an esl teacher here in Korea. I had taken a 20 hour Tesl course with Oxford Press that was extremely helpful, but this course took learning several steps further!
I was the H.R. Director for SLA and trained over 60+ teachers during my employment there. If I were still there, this course would be mandatory and if the company couldn't pay then I would find in our budget how the company could subsidize teacher's tefl certificate. Since we have annual training sessions, ITTT training would be the focus of the training session.
Today, I own my own private english school and have used what I have learned from the ITTT tefl course. I wished the course had discussed more on clauses but what was taught proved to be extremely helpful for me to teach my higher level students. I keep a file of important lessons learnt from this course and I can refer to it immediately to be used in class if the need arises, e.g. Intonation and stress: use the sentences from Unit 13 and illustrate to students how stressing a word can change the meaning of the sentence.
I just want to personally thank my tutor, Peter, for teaching and sharing his knowledge with me and the company itself for offering a great tefl Internet class at a reasonable price. Having a certified tefl certificate allows greater pay and respect from teachers and parents here in my community. This course is a no brainer if a teacher decides to work through the EPIK program (public school system) since teachers earn an extra $100 a month, i.e. $100X12mos. =$1200-$300 (ITTT course) =$900 pay increase!
