I have personally gained a lot from this course! Being born in Quebec canada, where the mother tongue is french, I was still lucky enough to go to english school because my parents had done their studies in english. However, never at any point in time throughout grade school or high school, was I introduced to any english grammar whatsoever. So for me, the entire verb tenses and grammatical intricacies that were taught in this course were very hard but very useful at the same time. I now feel a lot more confident with my knowledge in regards to english grammar. It’s funny because most of my french friends would always ask me for assistance with their english homework and I would always be baffled by the grammar exercises. This will no longer be the case! Another part that I really enjoyed of this course is the section on class dynamics and how to tailor a course plan to the specific needs of students. There are so many things that need to be taken into consideration before presenting a course. It really did make me think back about my teachers and the work they must have put in. I plan to put into action what I have learnt by going to a foreign country and experience teaching first hand. I will try and land in a country where I don’t speak the mother tongue and do my best to establish rapport with the students and community. I am sure that a great sense of respect and humility will come out of my first experience. Personally I would like to get students at the high school level, I think it is a crucial point in their lives and a good teacher can be an excellent role model for students. I see this change all the time in my daily work here in Quebec. I work as an addictions counselor in high schools, and once the rapport of respect and understanding is established, it is amazing to see how fast some students change. I will most definitely keep all of my assignments handy for the first year of teaching and look back on them to perfect my course plans. Also, I will recommend this course to any of my friends who are interested in pursuing their careers as a efl teacher. Once again thank you for everything and I truly believe that this diploma will open many doors for my future endeavors. I will carry this experience with me forever. Thank you!
