Foreign language experience (82) Foreign language experience may be one of the best experiences that has ever happened in anybody's life. It was definitely the most amazing, fascinating and valuable experience in mine. I am originally from Poland. english is my second language. I have started to study english when I was a little girl. However, my true adventure with english started five years ago. I came to New York in February 2008. Two days after my arrival, I started my very first esl classes (as a student, of course). Having natural language abilities noticed, I was put in an advanced group from the beginning. My first course was immensely intensive. Although we had a lot of fun and our classes were always entertaining, each time we were exposed to a very intense learning. I was taking both, morning and afternoon classes. Surrounded by a huge amount of foreign cultures, different languages and "Only english, please !" teachers, I found myself in a new, so far unknown environment. But I loved every bit of it ! There were no two days that could be categorized as the same, or even similar. Each day was completely, totally and indisputably different. I had people from all over the world in my classroom. I heard them speaking many different languages. They shared their own, very personal stories with me. They become my best friends. We came from different countries, representing different cultures and speaking with different accents. english has unified us. english will always be our common ground. I enjoyed participating in classes. I enjoyed waking up in the morning and going to school. I saw every test, every exam, or every presentation as just another step towards perfection. Each school I went to gave me a totally different experience. Each of them was unique. Hard work and dedication led me all the way through. The courses in language schools enabled me to go to college and do internships abroad. I became familiar with international business techniques and multicultural environments. And I have never wanted to give up - I have always wanted more. Living abroad let me learn english. It exposed me to it totally. I fell in love with that language. I do not know when I started to think in english. One day, when I realized it, I felt this internal satisfaction and completeness. Now my mind works in english. At some point I was asked to teach english. I have been giving individual lessons. I have always treated it seriously. I always get to know my students and their needs. I adjust my lessons to their individual levels. I have friendly relations with them. I am patient, though demanding. Teaching is a hobby and I think that because of this approach, I do it with passion. tefl certificate is another step on the way to perfection. I decided to do that course in order to enrich my knowledge about teaching others. My foreign language experience let me grow up and grow as a person. It let me discover the values that I did not know. It let me find my own self - the one that I am happy with. It opened my eyes and my mind. It let me become passionate about english.
