I have found that this course has given me a great over view of teaching english as a foreign language. It has shown me how to plan a successful lesson. As a native speaker I also learnt the names of various items of grammar that I have used intuitively all my life but was never “taught” at school. Whilst I believe that I am an eloquent, well educated person, I found that there were holes in my knowledge which need addressing before teaching my own students. The course has shown me that I can study and present my thoughts and findings adequately. I feel I have more confidence in my ability to teach my mother tongue to the many people who have approached me for lessons. I have already taken on two students and have plans to do my CELTA course at the end of the year with a view to setting up as an english tutor in my village. Within my local monolingual community there is a great demand for extra english tuition for adults and children. Many of the mothers seek help when their children start learning english at the age of 8 in the local school system. I am hoping that with my tefl experience and a future CELTA certificate I will be a good position to fill this gap in the market. As a mother of two bilingual children, I have an understanding of the challenges presented by learning an additional language and supporting your child with a second language. I have found the course helpful and informative.
