At first, I enrolled in this course to get a certification for resume purposes and to find a job in italy. Now, at the end I have found this course has fueled my desire to actually teach english. The discovery of this desire came during the last two units. There was an assignment where we had to base a lesson plan from a movie or comedy sketch. The idea of getting to be completely creative from start to finish really got me excited. At the end, when I had a friend proofread my lesson plan prior to submission and they told me it sounded not only practical, but also fun, I was hooked.
This really has been a great experience for me. It has taught me learning does not have to be boring. With a little planning, I can make learning interesting and entertaining for others. Regardless the level of proficiency, the amount of students, or if the learners are children or adults, I know I can create an atmosphere where learning can be well received.
I learned I do in fact know how to be creative. I realized I do have patience. I can organize my work and thoughts. I can be a good teacher. I have learned all these things and I know I will apply them not only in teaching english, but also in working with the Afghan Police here in Afghanistan. I may not be teaching an english class, but I have realized if I am positive and confident about my abilities, and myself I can motivate others and make them want to better themselves.
