This unit gave an overview of the role of testing and evaluation as an tefl teacher. Placement tests are given to students prior to starting an efl course to determine their level of english knowledge. Diagnostic tests are given at the start of an efl course for a teacher to determine what the skills and needs of the students in the class are. Progress tests are given throughout a course to see what students have learned and retained and can help teachers structure the course as it is being taught. Practice tests can be given to students to help prepare for General External Examinations which students take in order to get certification/approval for study or work abroad.
