Unit 13 detailed the specifics of pronunciation and phonology. Both are very important to english but can be difficult to teach. Pronunciation can be difficult for students and difficult for teachers to teach as some teachers lack the training to do so and the details of pronunciation can be difficult for native speakers to catch. In this Unit we learned definitions of intonation and stress and how these two things look in the english language. We see that english normally follows a rise/fall pattern of intonation and a fall/rise pattern is sometimes used when asking a question or inviting someone to speak. Stress has it's own rules that can help us know what syllable might be stressed. The unit explains how to indicate and teach stress through gestures
