The past tenses are closely related to the present tense grammatical form. The main difference is that the present tense is set in the present when the past relates only to past events. In this unit there were lots of recommended activities to use with the present tense. A favorite of mine was the “Detective Gameâ€Â. I will illustrate an example of this exercise. In this example I have used the Past Simple and Past Continuous tenses. A: Where were you on the night of October the third? B: At 9 pm I was at the movie theatre watching a movie with friends. A: What were you doing before the movie theatre? B: Before the movie theatre I wrote a letter to my mother and then I went to the post office. This game is a great way to practice the past tense. It also gives the students a chance to be creative when they practice speaking.
