Surprisingly, I learned far more than I ever anticipated. As a native english
speaker, I assumed this course would help me brush up on basic grammar that I had once learned in school but more than likely had forgotten - I was wrong. Not only did this go into depth on language points that I had either completely forgotten about or was just never taught in school, it really made me realize how much I underestimated the concept of teaching english
as a foreign language. I figured, as an english
speaker, it was as easy as going overseas and standing in front of some kids
and teaching them how to say “My name is Randy and I am canadian
,” but, as you know, there is far more that goes into teaching a person a foreign language.
For the most part I feel this course has humbled me, but at the same time, given me the confidence I will need to step in front of a class of foreigners that are relying on me to help them accurately speak the english
I plan on relocating to japan
this fall and hope to really utilize this course and all the knowledge I've gained in this short amount of time. Overall I just want to be able to represent ITTT
's course the way it should be, and help students learn to speak the english
language the best they possibly can.
