Leonardo da Vinci once said, “Learning never exhausts the mind.” We learn something everyday whether it is educational or cultural. Not all times, our intention is to learn, but by the things we experience, people we meet, and sights we see, knowledge is automatically processed into our minds. At times, we do not even know we are in process of learning certain information because we simply do not realize it. From this, we can conclude that motivation is a huge part of success, which derives from experience, environment, and society. It is my opinion that foreign students learn english for two reasons: interest or by force, but whatever the reason may be, motivation is an essence to cultivating their attraction to the language. Once motivation is instilled into the students, nothing can stop them from developing their knowledge into wider capacity. Parents can force their children to learn english by sending them to private schools, after school programs, academies, or private tutors, but we all know force comes with an enormous wall of bricks that interfere with learning. Students are more likely to refuse learning when it is forced up on them; therefore, teachers use motivation to bring down the wall and create imagination. Students can be motivated in many ways, but we must remember the difference between motivation and bribery. teachers can motivate the students by complementing on their work, praising for their effort, and building rapport with them for inspirations because I believe that motivation always leads to inspiring students to do better and be better. Frequent, and early positive feedback that supports the students' participation and work is also a good idea for the students to be confident in their learning progress. In the other hand, teachers must be specific when giving negative feedback so that it does not hinder their ability to improve in their english language. Motivating students and maintaining that inspiration is a great challenge for the teachers. There is no specific formula or rule to motivate the students; rather it is nurturing that motivates the students to continue to come to class, study at their own time, ask questions, explore and learn the language, and improve their basic knowledge into a higher level. Motivation comes from the heart. Likewise, it is something that we cannot force ourselves as teachers to motivate the students to participate in class or do better, in general. As teachers, we must love to teach, and really understand the meaning to teaching. We can teach the students as often as we like and share as ample information as we hope, but if the desire to teach is not corresponded to genuinely caring for the students, motivation will be no where to be seen. We must guide the students into the correct paths and remind them that they are a great part of the community. They are our future. At the end of it all, I believe that the greatest motivation we can pass onto our students is to help them motivate themselves when learning the materials because once you are motivated to learn, your minds will not be exhausted.
