By taking this course I have gained a much greater understanding of teaching english
as a second language. I have been able to practice planning lessons and finding activities that would be appropriate to different levels of students. I have learned that students come from a variety of language backgrounds and that even among "beginners" there can be differences in skill levels and competency with english
. I have learned that it is very important to recognize students as individuals and treat them as such; some may need more practice in certain areas while the rest of the class may be ready to move on. I have learned a great deal about english
grammar, different tenses and how to use them, and how to use a dictionary. I was raised speaking english
and I went to english
speaking schools, but I was never taught how to use the dictionary for pronunciation. I think that is a vital flaw in my Education and I feel privileged to have taken this course and finally gained understanding of the phonemic alphabet.
I intend to use what I have learned in this course to further my career, possibly working in the united states
for a time before moving to Ecuador. I hope to eventually live in Ecuador full time and I would like to teach english
as a source of income. I plan to incorporate all aspects of this course into my teaching and I hope to be an effective english teacher
. I hope to plan lessons in a variety of styles with a wide range of activities that will make the classes fun and interesting yet challenging for all of my students. I also plan to use what I learned to teach my husband to speak english
, he is from Ecuador and currently only speaks spanish
. I wasn't sure how to really teach him english
before but now I am much more prepared.
