I have been interested in taking this class for a few years now as a vehicle for enabling me to teach esl students when I retired from 30+ years of teaching and working with Special Education students and their families.
Since I have been tutoring esl students for the last five years on an individual basis, I came into class with some limited practical experience. The class was beneficial to me because it reviewed many things I knew about best practices in designing lessons and delivering instruction. I have always enjoyed learning about the english language, and the grammar sections were challenging but so important to review.
I am grateful that I chose the “hybrid” model for taking the class. I can’t imagine cramming everything I did into a few short weeks in barcelona! I spent an average of four hours per unit. It was helpful to be able to take breaks in between, and to do it on my time schedule.
Hopefully, my efforts so far will pay off when I go to barcelona to do my practical teaching. I am also hoping to use my tesol certificate either in the U.S. or overseas to work with adult students.
