For me personally it has been over sixteen years since I left school and had to do any formal learning or studying. Much of what I had learned in school has since been forgotten, as it has not been required by my job in sales. I have no previous teaching experience, so I decided to take this course to see if I could do some study again after all these years and whether or not teaching english is something that I could possibly do. I have gained a great amount of knowledge and information from taking this course which I plan to put into practice. I found this course to be very challenging at times and it had a lot of material that I needed to absorb and understand. The grammar units were my biggest challenge and I felt they were above the level that I had learnt in school, but I enjoyed them the most because I really had to focus hard on them to absorb the information. They also taught me how much I take for granted with english grammatical structures from being a native speaker. The classroom/teaching units will all be very useful in the future as I now have the techniques and knowledge on how to plan lessons, communicate with students, engage students, manage classes and teach language in a structured manor. I plan to use the knowledge I have attained from this course to put together some lessons and start teaching them to my japanese wife’s family as they all speak very little english, but they are all interested in learning the language from me. If I really enjoy teaching, then I will consider a change of career to become a fulltime english teacher. From taking this course I now know where to begin with my approach to teaching them english.
