Personally, I feel that I have gained a lot from this course. After studying spanish, I felt ready to go out there and teach english, using the skills that I had seen my spanish teacher use. But while completing this course, it became obvious that there really is a whole lot more to it than what I thought, in terms of skills that are needed to teach effectively, as well as knowledge of english grammar. It's much more complicated that I originally thought and although I probably feel slightly more intimated at the idea of teaching than I did before, I feel that I now have the skills I need to be a good teacher.
Considering that I am currently living in mexico, I am already in the right place to start teaching english as a Foreign Language. Ideally, I would like to find a few individual students first, so that I can get some experience and gain some more confidence before I jump head first into a class full of (hopefully) eager students. I do have some friends here who are interested in learning english, so I could possibly start working on that now.
As I don't yet have a work visa for mexico, if I want to start working properly, that is obviously something I will have to take care of first. Or it is possible that I might decide to leave mexico soon and continue traveling, in which case I will be ready to look for work (and a work visa!) when I arrive in the next Latin American country.
