This course gave me the opportunity to reveal a lot of the grammar that I take for granted and helped me go through the frustration of learning difficult concepts and terms. I really appreciate the Yogi Bear translation exercise because I had to go through learning a language, screaming out in frustration, and then the sense of accomplishment when you unlock the difficulties you face. Every teacher I ever had always said english is a hard language and in theory I knew that but re-doing the exercises for reported speech and so on really demonstrated that for myself. I will definitely be continuing research on grammar using the books that were recommended in the units. I often looked up online material for inspiration and explanations and found that even on youtube, lots of esl teachers are online who discuss and exchange useful sources. I like that the course units balanced classroom management with practical material, and offered lots of opportunities for personalization and flexibility. Playing around and forcing myself to plan out ESA lessons of all kinds of orders was huge. I appreciated the opportunity to plan difficult lessons for an audience and having to face my shortcomings and rework them until the lessons made sense. I always liked having outlines of all kinds for planning and I will continue to challenge myself to create differing style lessons plans that will serve the needs of students at various levels. I feel a lot more confident and organized, but at the same time believe I have a lot of work and research I need to continue to do. tefl showed me what areas I need work on and what tools and materials I can use to work on them.
