I have really enjoyed learning how to teach english as a foreign language through this course. I now have a better understanding of the basic english grammar concepts. It’s been awhile since I’ve been in school and taken an english class so this course has been a great refresher of what I’d learned in my childhood. I’ve often found myself reading an article or listening to a program and thinking, “That’s in present perfect tense, etc.” I even notice poor grammar now and secretly correct it in my head. This course has also given me the confidence to teach both adults and children. I now know the different language ability levels of efl students, and I feel like I have a better idea of which activities would be best to use for the levels. I also have a better understanding of the motivations of adults verses children to learn english, as well as the possible language difficulties they might face. One of the greatest skills I’ve gained from this course is the knowledge of how to make an efl lesson plan. I am new to teaching and have never had any formal training on lesson planning. I now feel confident that I can come to an efl class prepared and with a plan for how I will run the class and teach the lesson. I know that a lot of my lesson planning will change once I actually go before a class and teach. I’ll see how my time, activities, or even lessons may need to be tweaked to suit the needs of my class, but it’s good to have a starting point with a written out lesson plan. Now that I’ve learned all of this helpful knowledge about teaching efl I plan to go overseas and teach english as a foreign language. I most likely will be working with children but I may also tutor adults. If I enjoy teaching efl I may one day pursues further education so that I may teach efl as a profession.
