After teaching in the esl classroom for 9 years mainly to primary students, I had been looking forward to finding new ways to effectively teach my students in the future. This course has given me a wide variety of activities and methods for teaching. It has also shown me how to build upon my own style and correct some flaws in my teaching methods. As a teacher we must always continue to push ourselves. As a native english speaker who has never studied grammar it was great to brush up on and study english grammar. This will definitely be a great help when teaching different age levels in the future.
The course has also shown me how to approach different levels of learner and how to handle differing sizes of class which is often the case when working for language institutes. This will give me confidence when preparing for those kinds of classes.
Another area of teaching that I believe is vital in a student's development is evaluation/assessment side of english teaching. This course has shown me how to evaluate student levels from the beginning to end of a course or curriculum. It has often been the case in my years of teaching that I have taught varying ages and levels in the classroom and in some institutes the evaluation required by the school, has been poor at best. There was no real focus on evaluation but this is something that I now see as essential both for me and the students to follow the progress of a class.
I hope I will be better able to move on in my teaching career and apply everything I have learned in this course. I also feel I will now be a better and more effective lesson planner for the benefit of my students. Thanks for your help Tania.
