There are numerous reasons to learn english language. english is the most commonly used language throughout the world. It is taught in almost every, if not in all the countries. There are many countries in which english is the official language and also there are others that use english language as second official language. english is the language of entertainment and IT industries. Speaking english will open doors therefore increases the standard of living. Teaching english as foreign language abroad has become an industry. There are numerous certification programs offered around the globe to quench the thirst for quality english teachers. Teaching english involves different roles, such as managing, organizing, tutoring, prompting, assessing or monitoring. The majority of learners live outside native english countries therefore english teachers have to comply with local laws, requirements. teachers will come across different forms of teaching, different class size or specialized groups. Nowadays, efl teachers will likely to teach students in class rooms, groups in language schools or other specialized groups for individual purposes, such as business or tourism. Another interesting way of teaching is the one-to-one. In recent years, efl teachers have seen large increase in demands for one-to-one. Most teachers or language schools geared towards teaching groups, or classes. The pedagogical skills we have developed are based on teaching groups. Unfortunately, there is no abundance of published materials related to teaching one-to-one. Many teachers are excellent in classrooms but they are at a loss for ideas when teaching individual students. Some people say, when teaching one-to-one, the teacher’s role disappears and alters for a sort of psychologist, and some say the teacher becomes a sort of friend. One-to-one teaching requires a good, long lasting impression through appearance and behavior. There are many advantages and disadvantages of teaching one-to-one to teaching groups. A main difference is the lack of available published materials. Also the expectations can be very high as some students tend to believe, that one-to-one lessons will make a huge and quick improvement, therefore the job can be stressful. Some teachers have reported increased tiredness when teaching one-to-one as the teacher is constantly on, there is no relax time comparing to class rooms. teachers, when teaching individual students, can’t just expect the students to write tests or read long texts to take that time off. Another observable difference is the limited range of activities. Another important thing to bear in mind is the attendance problems at one-to-one lessons the teachers will face. But there are obvious advantages of teaching one-to-one. One-to-one teaching allows a greater reach. teachers have an excellent opportunity to develop own methods and styles. At some point, the teachers’ work is far more easier than in class rooms especially when trying to find interest from the students. The material can be selected easier and it will meet interest with no doubt. The lesson can be perfectly tailored so that satisfies both the student and the teacher. However in class rooms, the teachers have to bear many things in mind when selecting materials. Because there is only one student, no mixed levels, no weaker or stronger students so that makes the job easier. Also, there are no behavioral and disciplinary problems. In larger sized classes, there is more likely to meet behavioral problems. During one-to-one lessons the teacher can focus on one student and the student will benefit from the attention. However, teachers must be careful how to increase their attention towards the student as it can become inconvenient or perhaps intimidating. teachers must be careful how to use gestures and eye contact. The range of activities is decreased so the teacher becomes the partner in pair work that will definitely help the student improvement. One-to-one lessons are excellent grounds for conducting audio or video lessons, too. Certainly, there are many differences and similarities between teaching one-to-one and teaching groups. The teacher must never forget to engage and motivate his/her students. teachers should keep up their students’ interest, and the lessons should be entertaining and edifying. And last but not least, we must remember an important element, the money, as the one-to-one lessons can be a great opportunity to earn a bit of extra cash.
