Having never studied teaching methods before, I had a lot to learn at the starting point of this class. Many things that I learned (or sadly relearned in my case) from this course I had absolutely no familiarity with. I honestly do feel that this course has prepared me in my approach at teaching esl in that it has taught me many general teaching lessons as well as specifics to teaching a foreign language. I will have solutions for all of the problems I may encounter in the classroom from disciplinary issues, cultural misunderstandings, or lack of understanding or motivation from the students. A few of the most important lesson I learned from this course are how manage a classroom, how to correct students, assess students, how to use course materials, how to create course materials, and most of all how to use my creativity to always provide interesting, effective, and relevant activities for my students. I found the part about how to develop good teacher-student rapport to be very important and would like to be able to use those tips successfully.
Though I find grammar exceptionally boring to re-learn, I do understand the importance of teaching all grammar elements. I think that from this distaste I am motivated to find some very fun and effective teaching activities. I think that all of the lesson planning will aid me well in the future in organizing and reaching my teaching goals.
