After completing this course, I have learnt many things about the
english Language, skills that requires a
teacher, learning about my students/learners, classroom management, grammars and preparing the lesson plan; how and what to involve in a lesson plan in teaching
english. I've realized in this course that teaching
english requires a thorough understanding of the subject and not just by reading it from a book. Being a
teacher, one must be prepared and knows well the language, and know many ways how to impart knowledge to his/her students. I think, it is also important for a
teacher to be able to explain well the grammar to a student aside from just giving the meaning or how to use them.
tefl gave me an opportunity to expand myself in teaching the language. Obviously, I am one of those who are shifting from a different career to teaching
english which I love the most. I have learned also that there are a lot of things we must consider for our learners and must know well when and how to use media technology and different resources we could find in books and online resources in presenting our topic to our learners. In this course, I also learned about ESA or Engage, Study, Activate, stages to include in planning a lesson. It is different from what I've learned in the past. ESA gives the
teacher a chance in adopting the activity or games that he/she would want to use in the class in delivering a more effective lesson plan. I would certainly use this in planning my lesson plan.
tefl also gave me a clear view of different levels of my future learners; therefore, it helped me be more careful in teaching
english and assessing my students. Also, classroom management in Unit 5 gave me insights on how to organize and manage my class in a way that I can help my students build confidence as they study
english especially if they are second language users or non-mother tongued . Also, it helped me be more aware of the differences of having
young learners from adult learners.
