I have gained a lot from this course, and am very excited to use my new skills in the classroom abroad!
Even though english is my native language, I learned how hard it can be to understand all aspects of the language, especially grammar details. It gave me a lot more respect for english teachers and helped me to realize that I too had not mastered all the facets of my own language. I feel confident that I could now teach a class to others, whereas before I found it hard to picture myself as prepared enough to do something like that. It also opened my mind up to the difficulties that so many students must face when trying to learn the english language. If I was having trouble with various aspects of my own native tongue, it's hard to imagine the hard work students have to put in to understand such a complex language.
This course opened my eyes to the challenges students face, and I think this will help me remain patient and thoughtful in my lesson planning and teaching. If ever I get frustrated or tired, I will be able to think about the challenges my students face and how privileged I am to be able to be teaching them new language skills.
