I can honestly say that this course has opened my eyes to realize how our english language, as simple as it may seem, in reality isn't. Being mother tongue, knowing the language, culture of my birth country (America) and being able to teach and explain to someone the in's and out's of the language are totally two different things! As with any language, what we learn naturally, seems all too difficult when we are faced with all the “rules and regulations” of english, but taking this course has given me a better insight on teaching these “rules” especially if our approach is done correctly. Teaching isn't just a matter of standing in front of a group and telling them of the alphabet, but this course has taught me a better understanding of what teaching is and what it can be- it's a responsibility, it can be frustrating, but done right- it's very rewarding. I have had the opportunity to work at a local private language school as a substitute for a conversational english adult class. Even though I have no teaching experience, I helped out because I am mother tongue. Taking this course I am now hoping that I will be able to go from subbing to at least part-time but also to work with other groups as well. I know that as I work, I will gain more experience and confidence, the first step is usually the hardest, but this course has given me enough insight to know what to do and what to expect. I would like to add one thing- this course is just the beginning, for we should never stop learning, as with everything in life, there is always something new to learn – especially in our ever expanding world of technology- there will always be new words and expressions to teach and to learn.
