First of all, this course gave me a good opportunity to brush up on my knowledge of the english grammar, which I studied at university level years ago. It made me go back to the basics and then on to the more complex aspects of this language, focusing once again on the many issues and peculiarities we sometimes overlook once we reach an advanced level. Most important though were the Units on the actual teaching practice: how to physically arrange and manage a class, how to deal with various students' issues (such as engaging shy pupils, avoiding boredom in the classroom, evaluation and testing, dealing with disruptive behaviour), and especially how to plan a lesson. I have a very limited experience teaching english to monolingual italian classes and italian to monolingual canadian classes, so I found lesson planning an interesting albeit challenging and sometimes hard task. I seem to have now a clearer view of how a lesson should be conducted, what is needed at different stages and the many activities and material a teacher can use to do a good job. Since I am not planning on living abroad again, I hope this course will give me more confidence and knowledge to teach english to young learners and adults in my own country (individuals and groups).
