Sentence structure and grammar were things I never needed to really think about while I was in school. I had the basic understanding of how words should sound together but never took the time to really study it. I began to understand how complicated the english language is and have real respect for people learning this language. By understanding how difficult this language is- ahem, irregular words!- I will have more patience and sympathy in the classroom when students are learning. I will remember the difficulty I had during this course, and will remember that students will have an even harder time because they have not been speaking english their whole lives. I will try and come up with many examples for the students in order to give them the best chance to learn what is being taught. Other than basics of the english language, I learned how to create fun and engaging lesson plans. Lessons and activities don’t have to be solely based out of the text book and focused just on the topic, there can be other ways to obtain the same outcome. There are games and activities that I never thought to even use in the classroom and now I can’t wait to see how I can relate them to different topics.
