Summarily put, knowledge, confidence, and direction. Knowledge of grammar and teaching of students along with a solid foundation for putting together lesson plans in variable fashion has been very helpful. Having the information retained and available for review will be an asset for me as well. Working through the units sequentially was balanced well with grammar and real classroom situations enough to keep me from being bogged down with just grammar alone. I have definitely increased my ability to teach the english language and not just use it and know what is and isn’t right as an educated native speaker. Confidence in lesson preparation and presentation has increased tremendously for me personally. I know how to prepare lessons already, but the ESA approach is new for me and helpful for esl. I personally think I will use the boomerang or patchwork approach most often. I have been able to find other resources which should be helpful and expand ideas for teaching. This is great! I know that I can approach familiar and new situations with basic direction in mind. I won’t feel so lost going into a new situation. I can know that once I am into a new class or short course, I can adapt and re-direct where we would have been heading. Being able to troubleshoot like this and re-evaluate is a good tooling provision of the course. I am planning to use the course knowledge in indonesia for a conversation school and other opportunities along the way. Hopefully this will come together for me if I do well enough with this.
