I really enjoyed this unit. I learned the importance of teaching pronunciation and phonology and looked particularly at intonation and stress and the focused on the International Phonetic Alphabet. I have never looked in detail at the phonetic alphabet before and found it very interesting and was also reminded of a question I have heard many times... 'why the hell is 'phonetic' spelled with 'ph'?!!' We also looked at techniques for teaching and indicating intonations and stress and sound joining and linked speech. I wasn't sure of the questions asking me for the syllables and words that were stressed. I think it would be easier with more context...I will do more studying in this area.
