This unit discussed the importance of course materials. Some teachers believe that textbooks should be used while others are unsure if they serve a necessary purpose. Some of the information may be irrelevant to the students and may hinder the progression of the students. This can lead some teachers to create their own materials. There are two categories of course materials that include authentic and created materials. There exists both advantages and disadvantages for each type of material. Authentic materials are not designed for beginner students while created materials can be designed based on the students level of language knowledge.
