I have learned a lot from this course, but there are definitely some main areas in which this course has both made me aware of certain areas of the english language that I had not thought of before as well as encouraged me to think ‘outside the box.’ To be honest, I thought I was going to simply cruise right through this course as english is my native language, but I soon realized that there were some areas in my language in which I could tell you if something was correct or incorrect, but I could not tell you how I knew that. Therefore, the teaching part of the english language was quite a difficult task for me to do seeing that I struggled with explaining how I knew that the sentence was correct. This course has both reminded and challenged me in areas of english that I had not looked at for a number of years. The course took me longer than I had anticipated, but I believe that it was worth it because I now have a better understanding of not only how to teach english, but also the reasons why things are the way they are in the language. I have also gained a number of creative ideas for how to teach english. My goal is to look back at these resources from this course when I end up teaching an esl class.
