This tefl course has been a real refresher for me. One of the benefits to re-learning all the grammar and phonetics is that it has made me be more sympathetic toward my students. I realized that if it is difficult for me to re-learn these things about my own language, how much more so for the student learning english as a second or even third language?
Learning about different methods of teaching and lesson planning has also been a great help. It has opened my world as to how I can conduct lessons with various groups and levels. I feel a lot more confident in my teaching skills now, I think this course has helped me a lot with that. Before going through the course I didn’t realize how much I actually knew!
All that I have learned until now, has been put into practice through the different teaching jobs I have. I will continue to use all that I have learned in this course as I am restarting work next week. I teach english to babies through to teenagers, and regularly use many of the principles taught in this course.
In the future I hope to be working with adults, doing private and group lessons. I would also like to visit countries in Asia in the future, and have thought about getting esl jobs to pay for such a trip. I have lived in thailand before and I am comfortable with different cultures, so I look forward to putting my life and learning experiences to good use.
