Although I have had experience tutoring students in english, I have not had formal training in teaching in front of a large classroom. It has been an interesting experience to learn more practical knowledge on how to adapt to that particular situation, especially when dealing with students who have limited english communication ability. It was also really good to review the different types of sentence structures evident in the english language since I have not reviewed those in quite some time. Since I plan on teaching students whose native language does not have those types of nuances, it was interesting to learn different methods on planning lessons to help these students learn to use these skills correctly. Although I know that it is impossible to predict how each student will react and cope with the lessons that are being taught, I am genuinely glad that I took this course to give me a general overview of some of the things that I can expect. I believe that once I start teaching the students in a classroom structure that I will refer back to some of the lesson planning skills that I learned through this course to apply to my real lessons. I also like that links have been provided that I can refer back to when I need ideas for games, lesson planning, etc. I will definitely be using some of the games suggested since I want to make sure that the young students will be able to learn new skills in a fun, novel way. Hopefully this will help them retain as much information as possible so that they can continue to become more confident in using english as they continue on with their education.
