I have chosen to write my article on volunteer teaching because it is something that I have been doing for many years. I have has the pleasure of volunteering in french, italian and esl classes. Through my own experience I have been able to see that sometimes students will find more in common with the volunteer teacher then the regular teacher. When teaching in the esl class I learned that you have to be patient with them, also when marking their work you need to be able to motivate them along the way one of the things that I found that students liked was that I would correct their mistakes and put it in a different color for them so that they could see what they did wrong. What this course has taught me that will prepare me more for my volunteer work in September is that each age group is different and that you have to be able to adapt to each group so that you can help them along the way. Also something that I found that will help me is learning how to mange a class in one of the classes that I was in the teacher had no control. So I know see how important that is because in a language class the students need to be ready to learn and absorb what they are hearing but without control they wont be able to learn. One of the most important things that I find that will help me is the lesson planning I got to teach a few classes and if I would have known how to do a lesson plan it would have helped me more in the class that I was teaching. I see how important it is to be prepared even though you are not the teacher, as a volunteer you are marking their work and you should have everything ready just in cause you have to help or answer questions. What I found to be a good thing in a class room is to make Friday an easy day in some sense what I would do because I was close to a coffee shop I would bring my student timbits (small doughnuts), so that they could enjoy those and have fun in the class. This was a good way on rewarding them on good work during the week because it showed them that even the teach care about how well they do in the class. Over all this course has helped me bring all my skills into one and has made me ready to be able to teach english to students and show them how great the english language is. I find volunteer teaching to be one of the most helpful things a classroom could have because it adds a fresh pair of eyes and another mouth to help the student's in the classroom. I know that not all classes can have a volunteer but when they can I think that they should because it really does benefit all classes in some shape way and form.
