This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
First of all, I have learned how to be a good teacher. I understand now my role, students' expectations and thus I can recognise good learners and identify their english level. I now know how to teach effectively and efficiently using variety of methods. The whole course helped me revise grammar (tenses, modal verbs, etc.) and gave me teaching ideas to make my lessons more interesting - even when the topic is not too exciting. I have learned how to maintain discipline in the classroom, how to group students, how important are my gestures, tone of my voice and eye contact. Boomerang and straight arrow ESA lesson patterns will help me with lesson plan preparations. Also, my testing and examination skills have improved. With the knowledge of how young learners differ from adult learners I am now more confident with various age groups of students. During the course I came up with some interesting ideas of how to keep my students involved and active in my classroom. From warm-up activities to study parts, I know now how to maintain students' focus and participation. In general, I can confidently enter a classroom of new students, knowing how to build rapport with them and encourage them to develop themselves further.
