Throughout the course we have learned much about how to motivate students in the classroom. Furthermore, in the course a point that has been emphasized has involved how to motivate children and how children much different than adults in the classroom when it comes to motivating children. The article I decided to choose talks about how to motivate children to learn english and gives the best approaches to doing so. children are sometimes the hardest individuals to teach to the english language too. Often a huge reason is because they are kids and are easily distracted and do not understand the importance of learning the language. This affects how a teacher can connect with a student as well as affects the motivation of the younger learner. The first initial point that is made in the article to help motivate younger students is offering prizes and treats which inspires them to achieve more because of the additional reward they receive. However, by giving the children prizes and treats to motivate children students can be very costly for the teacher and a class full of students who are only motivated for the material prize and not because they should or want to learn the material. One of the things a teacher can do to motivate children students to learn english is by going over beyond the role of a normal teacher. teachers that act more than just a teacher allows students to be more comfortable and allows the teacher to engage with students easier. teachers that engage their students more allows them to get students more interested in the course and the teacher itself. A teacher has to make it known to their students that they are people just like them and not just teachers, or aids in their classwork but people who really care about the turnout of their students. A teacher should keep in mind these main objectives when teaching children to increase motivation; keep yourself motivated, be an individual, have fun, and always encourage students. Another main point of the article talks about how teachers should their students' active learners. teachers must be creative and make the class room fun. children get distracted easily so you must keep their mind active to keep them involved. teachers should involve games in lesson plans for children. If the children do not want to be there and are attending boring classes the end result of the child in the course will be very negative. Some things a teacher should keep in mind to transform their students to active learners is; playing fun interactive games, keeping them moving and out of their desks, and allowing them to be creative and get their hands dirty while learning the language. Furthermore, in the article it talks about to help motivate children in the classroom teachers should stick to a routine schedule. By creating a schedule it will help students know what to expect in the class and will help them stay organized as well which will lower the frustration level for a child who sometimes struggle in school. This point is emphasized because it is hard to motivate a student that is frustrated. Keeping order and providing some sort of structure to the class will lower a students' level of frustration. There are lots of ways a teacher can motivate younger students to learn english. The thing that every teacher must do is learn and be able to identify with their students. A teacher should alter their expectations and flow of their course once they have gotten a better feeling of the people the teacher is teaching.
