This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
I have gained some vital knowledge that every efl teacher should have to be an effective teacher. To begin with, the importance of establishing good rapport is emphasized throughout the course, and I think that is one of the key points to start with a new class. Secondly, I have learned the importance of lesson planning and which pattern to use while planning my lessons. How to include some fun in these lessons, where to find games and materials for this purpose are all covered in this course. Thus, I have learned how to draw attention of my students and how to teach them while entertaining. I have learned how to use a course book, which resources to use to adapt course books, how and when to use authentic materials in this course. They are all important to vary my lessons and get my students' interest in the lessons. Another important area is testing and evaluating students. I have learned how to evaluate students in a formal way besides following their progress through monitoring during fluency activities.
Although I have mentioned lots of gains from this course, I am still aware that there many more details I have not touched on yet. Some of these details are leading students to fluency activities, the importance of giving clear instructions, using videos, varying my voice, teaching different groups of students or individuals, the importance of teaching pronunciation, the importance of giving students time to write in the class hour,…These are even only some of the things I can name. To summarize, I have learned the necessary skills and knowledge to teach better and I will absolutely benefit from all this knowledge in my future lessons and career.
