When I decided to take this course, I also decided to treat the course like I was learning a foreign language. Even, though the english language is my L1. As a person who has studied martial arts as long as I have lives and dies by one axiom. “Always a student” I had to teach myself to be a student again. So I made the decision to re-learn the structure of my language as if I was experiencing it for the first time. I wanted to plan lessons that I would want to attend if I was learning. My objective was total immersion. My experience in South Korea prepared me for this. The course gave me the “empathy” for my students. Empathy is quality that lacks in some teachers.
