My main gain from this course is a grasp of the esl ESA type methodology. This was completely new to me. I still need to do a lot of practicing in making the lesson plans according to this methodology but I do understand it and see its usefulness. The two expressions I will remember are ‘more process than product’ and ‘more student time’ in the class. As I plan to teach small groups and individual students it will be up to me to tailor my lessons in the methodology of my choice. I do not expect to contend with schools that might prefer other methodologies. Another gain is the treasure throve of ideas on lesson materials and teaching aids (games), lists of resource books on esl teaching and learning, useful media, and links to localizing even more. All the ideas for group activities also will be very useful in the field I expect to work in – teaching small groups of business people who need to raise their level of competence and feel at ease when communicating in english. Recently, I have not had much group experience as I have concentrated on individual sessions via the Skype communicator. It is a very useful medium and I do intend to continue with it but intend to do more teaching of small groups. I will be starting my next course with ITTT soon – the 5 Units of business english.
