This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Studying the units from this course has given me a broader perspective of the english language. My favorite challenge from these lessons and with esl education in general, is stepping outside my native language and examining the concepts I take for granted as a native speaker. The analysis and identification of grammar proved themselves as formidable challenges more than once through my studies. These challenges however, were what I learned from the most regarding esl education.
I currently teach esl in japan as a member of the Jet Programme. Therefore, I am proud to say I have already been putting several of these lessons' concepts to work in my classroom teaching. Next summer, I will return home to teach high school english in America. My experience studying and teaching english as a second language I can already sense will help me greatly in the future. Studying these lessons has helped me disassemble and reassemble many of the concepts in the english language. (again, that before I took for granted) Now that I have seen the parts by themselves, I am confident I will have more success showing students how to put those linguistic parts together themselves.
