This course has been a very good refresher course for me in english grammar and has given me a greater appreciation for the complicated aspects of the language. The remarks in the grammar-themed units regarding where students are most likely to make grammatical mistakes were very informative since native english speakers such as myself would have a difficult time knowing in advance where non-native english speakers are most likely to have problems. One of the most beneficial parts of this course, however, was the fact that it made me think through issues and scenarios that I had not initially thought about when I decided to study for a tefl certificate (e.g., how to deal with specific classroom discipline issues). In addition, this course has not only taught me how to write lesson plans, but has helped me become a lot more comfortable with writing out lesson plans and I now feel more confident that I can efficiently organise a class period in order to meet a specific teaching objective. Hence, I plan to put what I learned into action by writing detailed yet flexible ESA-type lesson plans that incorporate what I have learned throughout the course on a variety of issues, especially taking into consideration those areas where I now know that students of english are most likely to have difficulty.
