The question “Why complete a tefl course” could have a simple answer. “To travel the world, to fulfill a passion, to give meaning to my life, to give meaning to another's life, to volunteer for a good cause” and maybe even “This is my calling.” The answer seems simple, but there is so much more behind it, so many pieces of information that makes it necessary and gives so many reasons for why one should teach english as a foreign language. The necessity and demand for english teachers around the world is astonishing. • english is the most widespread language in the world. • It is more widely spoken and written than any other language. • Over 400 million people use the english vocabulary as a mother tongue. • Over 700 million people speak english as a foreign language. • Over 350 million people speak english as a second language. • Three-quarters of the world's mail, telexes and cables are in english. • More than half of the world's technical and scientific periodicals are in englishenglish is the medium for 80% of the information stored in the world's computers • english is the language of navigation, aviation and of Christianity. • over 1 billion people are currently learning english world wide • Companies such as CBS, NBC, ABC, BBC and CBC all transmit in english, reaching millions of people all over the world. • It is estimated that english learners will peak to around 2 billion in the next 10–15 years. • In a globalized world, english learner numbers are only expected to grow. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child. ~Carl Jung It is said that english is widely regarded as a gateway to wealth for national economies, organisations, and individuals. If so, the distribution of poverty in future will be closely linked to the distributions of english. Analysis of international travel movements suggests that ¾ of all travel is between non-english speaking countries. Therefor a great demand of foreign language learning is necessary. One main factor for the lack of english knowledge and vocabulary is Poverty, many countries or parts of countries do not have the necessary funds, means or facilities to aid english as a foreign language. Some may not even see the need for english vocabulary or are too ignorant to realize the personal benefits one could gain from this. children that learn english as a foreign language aids in developing enhanced social skills - social interaction is a critical part of our lives and affects the quality of life within society, educationally, and professionally. These children will be able to communicate at a higher level on all levels. Multilingual individuals are generally more balanced and comfortable in a multi-cultural environment and will be more compassionate toward other monolingual peers as they know the struggles of learning a new language, relating to their own experience. By encouraging children to learn english as a foreign language, we are giving them a number of advantages and opportunities that will carry out through the rest of their lives. I can only imagine that by completing a tefl course, you will be left with a sense of fulfilment. The reward of teaching english as a foreign language is that you have played a part in the developing world. Teaching is leaving a vestige of oneself in the development of another. And surely the student is a bank where you can deposit your most precious treasures. ~Eugene P. Bertin. An old english verse Hwæt! W?
