From this course, I have gained an understanding of the variety of techniques and structures available to teaching english to speakers of other languages, and also of all the essential grammar features that may be taught, and various ways to teach them. I have also gained resources and lesson plans that I can use in future lessons, and a thorough understanding of lesson planning that will serve me well in future. I learnt how to categorise students into different levels and identify needs, how to tailor material appropriate to these levels and needs, and how to deal with problems that may arise, and unusual teaching situations.
To put this knowledge into action, I plan to obtain an english teaching position at a school in china. I'm close to obtaining a job in Anji County, in the province of Zhejiang, and will use the knowledge I've gained from this course to uncover the needs and abilities of the students I'll be teaching there, and create an effective, relevant and engaging curriculum to maximise the amount they're able to learn from me about the english language and its uses.
