Most of the information taught in this course was new to me, since I have never taught before and have never really understood grammar. Part of the reason I took this particular course is because I noticed that it had quite a few units on grammar. The grammar units were definitely useful to me. I always went by ‘what sounded right,' but I knew that was not going to be an option if I was going to teach english! While I still have much to learn when it comes to grammar, I feel like I am far better prepared to explain tenses and other grammar to students than I was before taking this course. Before taking this course I did not understand how you could teach someone english if you did not speak their native language. Now I wish they had taught foreign languages using the ESA method where I went to school! A significant portion of this course was focused on lesson planning, which I found to be particularly useful. I found the ESA method to be very interesting, and while I am certain that I could have learned about it without taking this course, I know I would not be able to create a lesson plan if it were not for this course! I am sure there are still many lessons that can only be taught through actual experience as a teacher, but I know this course has helped prepare me to be a teacher. The thought of teaching english still makes me a little nervous, but this course gave me confidence I need to become a teacher.
