Who knew being a native english speaker I would be faced with a great challenge while learning more about the english language? We tend to speak, read and write english without taking into mind how complex it can actually be especially the various grammar activities that would have you second guess yourself at times. Being an english part-time teacher to students that are pretty new to the english language (hence everything being taught is an eye opener to them) and it's very evident when their faces light up after answering a question or doing and activity correctly. In Arabic there is no “P” it's turned into a “B” so you can imagine how entertaining teaching them words with a “P” can be (the CDs made me more aware of other cultures and how they can also struggle with pronunciation). I am extremely grateful for all the activities and games I've learned through working on lesson plans day in and day out. The different phases in a lesson plan has really helped me break down a lesson efficiently (it helps me manage my time properly). The different tenses, forms of speech, grammar etc…has helped me to practice more on what we had been taught in school, and that we conveniently forgot. The various teaching skills will assist and improve my style of teaching in class, as well as classroom management (which was really helpful). Nonetheless, this course was made to push us and it has given me more confidence and hope in teaching english as a foreign language to the little ones here in Oman.
