Before taking this course, I taught english in Mongolia to various age groups. Although I had experience there were many things I still didn’t know as I had never studied formally to become a teacher. Through this course I have been able to answer the questions I had and learn new skills such as lesson planning and placement testing. These were things that I had avoided doing before because I didn’t have the know-how. Now, I feel confident that I can do these and more.
Currently, in Mongolia, there is a need for english teachers. Until recently native speakers with no experience teaching english are being employed by schools and businesses all over the country. However, it has become more competitive over the past year or so as mining companies and other high-paying foreign companies have brought their businesses here. I am confident that the things I have learned through this course and the certificate I obtain will give me an edge and help me to secure a better, higher paying job teaching english, or even open my own language center someday.
