I am currently teaching elementary level esl in South Korea but can fully admit that upon my arrival one year ago my biggest fear was having one of my students ask me a specific grammar question that was troubling them and I not being able to answer them right away or lacking the confidence to do so; regardless of whether or not english is in fact my native language. After taking this course I can honestly say that I have more to say than “it's just the rule and it's what I learned but I'm not sure why it is so”. I no longer lack the same amount of confidence with regard to specific grammar points and verb tenses and have an appreciation for how challenging and technical learning the english language can be.
In addition, the task of completing a lesson plan is less daunting than I originally credited and feel I can plan my lessons using the ESA approach, successfully catering to the needs of my students and outlining my learning objectives in a clear and comprehensible manner.
I will use all of the skills this course has given me to be a prepared, organized, engaging educator, who appeals to different intelligences and adapts my teaching style in order to meet the needs of my students. I will also be less intimidated by teaching adults for fear they ask me difficult grammar-related questions, as I now possess the knowledge to answer them in an educated manner.
