I have personally found the course to be very beneficial throughout. Each of the topics covered in the units I found to be interesting and each of them has taught me something new about the type of
teacher I want to be, and also how to be the best
teacher I can. The units I found most rewarding personally were the grammar units. This is an area I have not revised for a long time and the units were well thought out and I feel will be of great benefit to me when teaching in the future. For example, being a native
english speaker you automatically know which tenses to use and how to form a grammatically correct sentence or whether to use passive or reported speech, however the teaching of can be very different. I have never thought into breaking them down and how to teach the correct usage of them. Native
english speakers also know what parts of speech to put together, however, to
efl learners verbs, auxiliary verbs, adjectives, etc can all be extremely confusing. The course has made me analyze fully the actual teaching of the
english language and how best to put it in to action. I also feel that the course has provided me with many sources of reference, guidelines and ideas on how to correctly structure classes to provide optimum learning at the correct levels. When qualified my aim is to teach
young learners aged 4-7years old, here in
hong kong. I feel that the course has given me a good insight into teaching young students and I have learnt a lot of different skills on how to keep young students motivated, interested and how to keep things fun, but still educational. When planning a lesson, especially the activate and study stages I feel the course has really made me think. Firstly about teaching the correct language and secondly about eliciting the correct language from the students, I didn't realize how easily if not given the correct instructions this can happen. The CD Rom unit has provided me with an excellent insight in to the
teacher's role, although in the examples given they were to the extremes, it is always important to
assess the role/effectiveness of a
teacher in the classroom and indeed your own role and effectiveness when teaching.
