There are several things which I have learnt from the ITTI course. First of all, the most important thing I have learnt from the tefl course is how to lesson plan in a structured manner. Prior to commencing the ITTI course, I had minimal knowledge of how to lesson plan. After completing the ITTI course, I now have a better understanding of how to structure either a straight arrow, patchwork or boomerang pattern. Now whenever I lesson plan I always incorporate activities which engage students and activities to help facilitate studying and activating. Secondly From the course, I also came to realise that a lot of techniques which I have used previously in the classroom are supported. For example, prior to commencing the course, I used various approaches to manage a classroom. However, I was unsure if these techniques or approaches were correct. From completing the course, I am now better equipped with tips on how to manage a class and it gave me confidence knowing some of the approaches I took were correct. Thirdly, prior to commencing the course, I focused on teaching speaking and listening skills to students and pretty much ignored reading, pronouncing and writing skills. As the tefl course stressed the importance of reading, writing and pronunciation skills, I now make sure that I incorporate some of these activities into my lessons. Lastly, the tefl course help me addressed my questions regarding the use of text books. I agree with the approach where you shouldn't use a textbook for the entire course, yet text books can be helpful at times. Previously I had thought that it was important to cover every single topic in a textbook, however from completing the course, I now omit certain sections which I feel are not important. On the overall, the tefl course has helped with provide me with a better understanding of how to teach. The tefl course has also allowed me to consolidate knowledge from my previous experience to produce more systematic and hopefully more effective lessons. Regardless, I feel that there is a lot more to learn and this tefl course is only the beginning.
